Pita Bread Recipes

Pita bread is one of the most beneficial varieties of bread and can be used for many purposes and dishes. Its versatility is underestimated and there are many times when it is much more convenient than quarterly bread. Although a wee time consuming, it is not difficult to make and there are fullness of Greek pita bread recipes both in books and on the internet. The preparation time listed in books usually includes the rising time for the dough, so do not be put off by that.

To make that actual bread you will need to open a sachet of yeast. Do this by adding it to a tablespoon of sugar in a bowl. Pour in 1/2 cup of warm water and leave it to stand and ferment for about ten minutes. Dissolve 2 teaspoons of salt in a cup of warm water and add this and the yeast aggregate into a bowl containing 4 cups of flour. Mix this into dough, using your hands, and knead this until it is smooth. This will probably take around 10 minutes or so. Pour a wee olive oil over the dough and knead for other five minutes. Leave your dough to rise for a concentrate of hours in a covered bowl somewhere fairly warm. In some Greek pita bread recipes you can add a wee garlic to the aggregate for flavour.

Once the dough is about twice its primary size, knead it again for a few minutes and cut and roll into the desired size and shape. Bake them in an oven at 350 degrees F for just two or three minutes. It is best to bake them on cookie sheets to make sure that they do not stick. When they are cool you can store them in an airtight box ready for use. Heat them in a skillet with a wee oil when you want to use them. There are lots of Greek pita bread recipes for fillings and they are so beneficial you will soon be using them in place of quarterly bread.

Obviously the base Greek pita bread formula is to use it for kebabs. Bearing this is mind, there is no surmise why you cannot move on from this tradition and use them for lots of other fillings. A vegetarian can have all the salad items that you would usually associate with kebabs, but use humus instead of the meat. You could use cubes of cheese or tofu. If you start reasoning along these lines, you will soon realise that the bread makes a overwhelming alternative to bread for sandwiches. If you are going on a picnic and do not want to have to make an array of sandwiches for everyone, you could just pack all the fillings in plastic packaging and take some pita bread. This way everybody can have the fillings that they would like and you do not have to put up with soggy sandwiches. They are very easy to eat and not nearly as messy.

There are also a lot of Greek pita bread recipes with dips. The primary dips would usually be taramasolata, humus and tzatziki, but you can use them for any others that you like. Pita bread authentically can be used in place of quarterly bread for pretty much anything. It makes good croutons to accompany soup as it is thinner than commonplace bread and becomes authentically crispy. As it is so easy to make, you can experiment and find a whole new range of uses.
